The New F-Word

The New F-Word

The “f-word” is associated with something taboo, to be avoided in polite company. But DOITFORJACK has a different “f-word” in mind, and it’s one we want everybody—parents, coaches, teachers, young professionals, college students, teens, and kids—to say.

Fentanyl.

Why call fentanyl the f-word? Too many are ignoring the message about fentanyl, and we need to get their attention. Fentanyl is being dismissed as an addict’s problem instead of recognizing it’s a danger to anyone who uses a recreational drug—even once— or takes a fake prescription pill bought on the street or online.

We need to say this f-word openly and often because fentanyl is a leading killer among Americans ages 18 to 45. It’s claimed the lives of over a quarter of a million people, many of whom had no idea they were taking it. DOITFORJACK founders Stephanie and Tom Quehl wish they’d said the f-word to their son Jack. If they had, he would’ve had a chance to make a better decision. Instead, they lost him to fentanyl poisoning at only 23 years old.

Fentanyl hides in darkness, concealed in illegally produced drugs and fake prescription pills. To stop it, we must drag it out into the light by saying it over and over, until everyone gets the message:

  • It only takes 2 mg of fentanyl—similar to 5-7 grains of salt—to kill.
  • You can’t tell if a drug or a pill contains fentanyl just by looking at it.
  • No drug or “prescription” pill bought on the street or online is safe.
  • The only safe medications are prescribed by a doctor and filled at a pharmacy you know.

Having a conversation with your kids, friends, or co-workers isn’t always easy. That’s why DOITFORJACK has created a program for direct engagement, delivering critical information about the fentanyl crisis through in-person presentations that empower students, parents, and educators, as well as corporate teams and their young professional employees. Tom and Stephanie founded DOITFORJACK and the Jack Quehl Foundation because they made a commitment to never see another family get that phone call and lose their Jack. That’s why DOITFORJACK wants to help you say the new f-word. Contact us and have DOITFORJACK speak at your school, workplace, or community event.

Let’s have the conversation today. We might just save a life tonight.
